By Mabel Frank, MHWOW Program Coordinator
Hi, friends! As a quick introduction, my name is Mabel, I’m a recent Carleton College graduate, and I joined the MHWOW team in October. I was drawn to Moishe House’s commitment to support Jewish practice and experiences with an all-encompassing definition. I love all things food, Midwestern road trips, and supporting your Jewish community-building, so please don’t hesitate to reach out and introduce yourself. If you’re curious to know more, please do read on!
Hometown: Evanston, Illinois
Current City: Chicago
Astrological sign and why you identify with it
I’m a Virgo through and through, or at least it seems so as based upon my recent Google search. Virgos are logical, systematic, and detail-oriented while remaining kind, supportive humans. This is how I sometimes am and most hope to be!
If you could have dinner with any 3 people, dead or alive, who would they be?
1. Ira Glass—because for once, I’d like to be the one asking the questions, Ira.
2. Guy Fieri. Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives is one of my favorite shows. I would love to do ‘The Hunch’ over a monster meal with the one and only!
3. Abbi Jacobson. I appreciate her jokes, art, and general demeanor. I think we’d be good friends.
What could you give an impromptu presentation about?
Jewish foods, definitely. I’ve spent much of the past few years taking a sociological look at the role of food in Jewish identity—everything a bagel carries, aside from cream cheese and lox. I can talk kugel, memory, and identity construction for hours!
Favorite Jewish holiday
Shabbat! I love the chance to take a moment for myself and make the passing week feel a little more special.
What makes you smile most?
Pugs, spending time with friends and family, and stunning charcuterie boards.
