What is the Role?

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), member of the Executive Leadership Team, and leading a high caliber team focused on enterprise-wide operations, the Chief Financial & Administrative Officer (CFAO) will play a critical role in developing and implementing the global strategy for Moishe House. This executive will serve on the Executive Leadership Team and will be responsible for the development and oversight of Moishe House’s strategy for finance and accounting, human resources (HR), information technology (IT), and general operations. The CFAO will manage a team of 3 direct reports including the Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO), Controller, and Senior Director of Technology.

What are the Responsibilities?

Strategy and Systems:

  • Partner with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team to assess organizational performance against both the annual budget and Moishe House’s long-term strategy; provide strategic recommendations based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis; make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations.
  • Oversee long-term budgetary planning and costs management in alignment with Moishe House’s strategic plan, especially as the organization grows, considers potential acquisitions / strategic partnerships, and collaborates with external organizations.
  • Report to CEO and Board finance, audit, and investment committees around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model(s) and operational delivery. Generate reports and develop tools to provide critical financial and operational information to the CEO and board of directors.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Advancement Officer to align financial management with short- and long-term financial planning and projections.
  • Responsible for the overall strategy process facilitation and development including seamless integration of Human Resource, Accounting, Internal Communications, Programmatic, Technology, and Advancement systems and software.

Team Management:

  • Mentor and develop a direct team by managing work allocation, training, problem resolution, performance evaluation, and the building of an effective team dynamic.
  • Engage other members of the Executive Leadership Team to facilitate cross-departmental collaboration that ensures that all financial, Technology, and HR solutions positively support Moishe House’s evolving strategy, operational delivery, and data collection needs.
  • Serve as a business partner to the CEO on the organization’s financial, budgeting, and administrative processes—including HR, payroll, and benefits functions—with an eye to continuously developing and improving systems while always creating a positive and vibrant work culture.

Financial Management:

  • Support and empower the Controller on all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Set up and continue to improve effective management accounting systems and processes.
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting. Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs. Optimize the handling of banking relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash positions.
  • Ensure a strong system of oversight and administration for all donations including institutional support, including keeping accurate records on donations given, donor contact information, and donations reporting.
  • In cooperation with the Development Team, as required, oversee preparation of budgets and financial reports for submission to granting agencies. Oversee budgeting, and the management of budget and grant accounts monitoring progress and presenting operational metrics both internally and externally.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors; assess any changes necessary.
  • Oversee the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics for funding organizations and Moishe House’s Nonprofit’s board of directors; prepare and communicate monthly and annual financial statements.

Technology & Operations Management:

  • Support and empower the Senior Director of Technology to ensure effective use of Information Technology systems to support fundraising, programs, and organizational business processes, including document management, client relationships management (CRM), event support, and grant management systems. Leverage Information Technology to support core business initiatives. Establish and maintain budget/cost management for IT. Oversee the implementation, including regular upgrades, of the IT infrastructure.
  • Legal & Risk Management: Oversees the development of organization-wide policies and procedures in partnership with accounting, IT, HR, Development, Facilities, Legal, etc. to mitigate risks for the organization and ensures compliance with legal requirements. Maintain oversight of legal concerns, risk management, and contracting.

Talent Management:

  • Support and empower the CHRO in implementation of all human resources activities including HR policies, recruitment, selection and hiring; payroll and benefits; compensation philosophy and implementation, staff support and engagement; and support for training and development. Evaluate and oversee all benefits negotiations, thus providing the most competitive packages for the team.
  • Contributes to the organization’s efforts to promote an organizational culture of collaboration, open and frequent communication, adaptation, alignment with a common vision, and celebration of success in achieving specific project and broader organizational objectives.
  • Accountable for clear and thoughtful communications with all stakeholders and in particular, employees, to ensure an environment of transparency, clarity of mission and support while also demonstrating high standards of excellence and accountability.
What Qualifications Does the CFAO Need to Have?

The CFAO must be a seasoned leader with a minimum 10-15 years of financial and administrative management experience, including at least 10 years at a managerial level. A CPA/CMA and/or MBA is strongly preferred, or commensurate experience that demonstrates exemplary strategic and financial acumen.

The CFAO will have the following experience and attributes:

  • An ability to evoke confidence and trust while also building a warm and thoughtful workplace culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to build systems that enable efficient budgeting, financial controls and quality, timely reporting.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills as well as knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for nonprofits and philanthropic financial management; if coming from the for-profit world, significant nonprofit board experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit governance; experience interfacing with governing boards and a deep understanding of mission-driven organizations.
  • Proven track record of strong leadership and collaborative management skills.
  • Ability to lead teams working in multiple locations and internationally.
  • Initiative to take on new projects and to strive for continual improvement.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a genuine passion for the mission with an ability to communicate that passion to others.

What is the Compensation?
  • Starting salary of $175,000 – $190,000, geography and skillset/experience dependent
