Hannah Gelder

Hannah is a midwesterner through and through. She spent the first 18 years of her life in Skokie/Evanston, and then, because she felt Chicago winters weren't presenting enough of a challenge, she ventured north to Macalester College in Minnesota where she majored in geography. She also spent one of those four years in Senegal and when you meet her it's likely you'll hear an anecdote or witness a dance move that she learned over there. After college, she returned to her roots and participated in AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps in Chicago. She is still working as a community organizer around the issue of access to affordable health care. She's very excited to be a part of Moishe and looks forward to meeting you!

Sarah Miles

Sarah Miles hails from the wild wild West of Denver, Colorado. Sarah packed up her life and moved out to the frigid Midwest at the ripe age of 18 on a conquest to gain knowledge. She attended Beloit College in Beloit, WI and did an Urban Studies Program in Chicago and studied abroad in Ireland. Sarah is always up for an Irish jig and a Guinness. Sarah moved to Chicago after college to find her fame and fortune. She participated in Avodah: The Jewish Service Corps, and implemented restorative justice in Chicago Public Schools. Currently, Sarah works with people who are previously incarcerated and/or homeless and helps them get a job and/or go to school. Sarah also teaches Jewish middle schoolers about Judaism, urban poverty, and social justice. Sarah enjoys living communally, long walks, the Rocky Mountains, snail mail, and black and white pictures. Contrary to popular belief, Sarah is not good at hulla hooping.

Wendy Mironov

Wendy was the kind of kid always covered in mud or paint. This led her to get a BFA in printmaking at UW-Madison, but now most of her creative energy goes into cooking, growing tomatoes, teaching herself bike repair, yoga, activism, her job, and exploring the great city of Chicago. Currently she works as a health educator and advocacy coordinator at the Chicago Women´s Health Center, a sliding scale clinic providing gynecology, counseling, acupuncture, and comprehensive sex education services. Previously she´s been involved with organizations including the Madison Worker´s Rights Center, AVODAH Jewish Service Corp, the Chicago Rape Crisis Hotline, the Madison Literacy Council, and, currently, she is collaboratively organizing a bike tour from Chicago to the 2010 US Social Forum. Wendy is passionate about traveling and has traveled extensively through the Middle East, North Africa, random countries in Europe, cross country by bicycle in the United States, and, most recently, through Central America, which was incredible, but at the end of the trip she was excited to return to freezing cold Chicago and to join her amazing roommates in Moishe house. The only improvement to the house she can imagine would be a puppy.

Emma Schwartz

I graduated from college in May 2009. I am super excited about being back in Chicago (my hometown), but even more excited about living in a Moishe House. I definitely need the community and reconnection with Judaism that it will provide, and I love community building and meeting new people.

Kelly Viselman

Kelly is a native Californian who has been transplanted in Chicago for the past year. Kelly loves photography, the company of others, music and being outside. Kelly does not like trying to type herself into a paragraph but she is excited to get to know you!
