2001? 1984? 1999? No, its freaking 2010! We celebrated living in the future with a blast-from-the-past movie series. We watched the movie, "Deathrace 2000"... it's the year 2000 and hit and run is no longer a crime.. it's a national sport!

25th Aviversary Jewish Music Festival - (7/11/2010)
A day at Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco to see a vast variety of performances celebrating the Jewish tradition. Kelzmer Bands, Parades even Jewish-Vietnamese Comedians. Joshua Walters did his Beatbox routine as a ultra brightly colored trash conductor. A total blast.

July 4th Beer Schmear - (7/4/2010)
A backyard BBQ at which we premiered our 1st ever home-brewed beer. (A Belgium hefewizen, with a hint of banana). We grilled lamb, sausage and enjoyed the sunshine next to our beautiful backyard herb garden.

Closet Party - (6/30/2010)
It was time to clean out our closets! And in the process, got some really fun free stuff. People brought unwanted and unused clothes, shoes and anything else they wanted to the house. They went through the closets of all our friends, and took what they'd like. Anything that didn'tt get taken, MHO will donate to the Goodwill. It's a win-win.

We had some serious house bonding at Le Cheval in Oakland, where we shared an amazing 5-course seafood dinner which tasted out of this world. However, Ariel ended up with food poisoning... and Kellyn got just a little upset in the tummy. Totally worth it.

Jewish Spoken Word at Temple Beth Israel - (5/6/2010)
Jewish performers of all backgrounds gathered to share their creative works on Thursday, May 6th at 7:30 pm at Congregation Beth Israel, 1630 Bancroft Way (at Jefferson Street) in Berkeley, CA. ...And It Was Revealed: An Evening of Spoken Word, a variety of Jewish spoken word performers, from poetry slam veterans and beatbox performers who have developed their own solo shows, to entertainers who simply have remarkable stories to tell. The artists performed their original pieces -- poems, stories, songs and dramatic works (each under 5 minutes long) -- in a casual atmosphere infused with original musical compositions and hip hop rhythms.

Ecstatic dance - (3/28/2010)
Moishe House is proud to be partnering with the Free Unitarian Universalist Network (FUUN) to bring you an all out Spectacular Sunday, of Dance, Food, and Festivities all in Oakland.
First we will be going to Ecstatic Dance at 1933 Broadway (@20th St). Ecstatic Dance is from 10:30-1 and cost $15 per person. (Tickets are 15$, but role with Moishe House to get 5$ off your admission.) Ecstatic Dance is essentially worship through dance, it is not a class and there is no particular skill or style required (there is no talking on the dance floor). We will be meeting up outside at 10am. That way everyone has enough to time find parking/walk there, buy their ticket, and get the group socializing ya-yas out. *Please remember to wear clothing you can dance comfortably in and bring water*
After the dancing, the Ecstatic Dance community goes to a nearby park space for a picnic lunch till about 2pm. We will be joining them and doing it potluck style. So please bring a tasty dish to share. Drinks and Desserts are already taken care of.

Joshua Walters is an intense and hilarious performer, they even said so in the SF Bay Guardian! Join us to support him in a night of his beatboxing, spoken word and comedy. This is an interactive show, in that the audience is encouraged to give Joshua feedback about what they just saw. This night will also feature local stand-up comedy SENsation Sammy Obeid. Holy Cow! What a Night!
In joining with our event regular and neighborhood pagan Suzy we teamed up with Free Unitarian, Universalits Network (FUUN) to have a special celebration for the rebirth of the sun. We blessed a yule log, lit candles, sang together and danced long into to the night. This was the longest event we have every had starting at 6pm and going to 9am the next day, a blockbuster of a good time where dinner and breakfast where served by a gourmet sheff that was a friend of the crew. 12 people stayed the night in our 2 living rooms, for an event like this we folks come 100 miles in ever direction.

Once in a while the east bay spoken word institution know as the Berkeley Slam at the Starry Plough does a special themed night. This night was the Great Bay Area Poet Swap in which poets tried on each other voices, impersonating each others style. It was fun and supposed to be funny, hopefully most of the audience got the joke.

Game Night 2: Pinball Adventure - (10/9/2009)
For Game Night 2 we headed to the Lucky Juju Pinball Gallery in Alameda. It is a unique alternative arena for vintage pinball machines and a showcase for artists that features 4 rooms with a rotating lineup of 40 machines plucked from their collection of over 700. We meet up at our house before the event to carpool over together. After our thumbs got sore we headed to Jack london Square and found a great Peruvian restaurant that stays open late and satisfied our tummies.

Art Murmur happens on the first friday of the month in downtown oakland. The streets are blocked off and 19 art gallerias open there door to young people from the hours of 7-9pm. We meet at the house and then caravan to downtown.

Basta's first official house event was backyard barbeque listening party in support of Roots and Branches Sound System Vol. 3 (a CD he just produced). Live screen printing, lots of tasty food, positive people, warm weather and appearances from core members of Roots and Branches community building collective. The night ended with a video projection on one a wall in our backyard.

We read from the (laptop) torah, said the prayers over said laptop-torah, and the prayers over Kellyn's borrowed-tallit. Many guests had never even been to a Bat-Mitzvah. It was some edJEWtainment the likes of which have never been seen before!

Went to go see "Mary and Max", a claymation by Oscar-winning filmaker Adam Elliott. It was the first time for the entire gang to see a movie inside Berkeley Rep's beautiful Roda theater.

Roots and Branches Youth Stage @ Lakefest - (8/2/2009)
Just a couple block away from Moishe House Oakland, Roots and Branches youth stage at Lakefest 2009 was a major success. The full schedule of youth talent started with Kid Bumps drummers and the Lil Inspirations dancers. Youth Movement Records came through and held down a showcase multiple youth performers involved in their program. DJ BASTA kept it moving throughout the day with selections from Roots and Branches Sound System Vol.3. Bumpitythump brought the sun out and had the crowd moving along with them while they pounded out rhythms on Djembe's and Dun Dun's. Baby Champ rolled in with the Scraper Bike Team, blessed us with a selection of tracks from his forthcoming solo album and then went immediately after to get down on the main stage. VT and Yong Naughdy closed out the day with a fiery set of songs from their new album "Successful." Thanks to everyone who was involved and to our community for all the support.

Attended B.A.D. (Bay Area Derby) Girls league game. Richmond Wrecking Belles vs. San Francisco Shevil Dead. Richmond, the undefeated team, won again. We ate some delicious bbq and sliders. Saw a sea lion leaping out of the water at the end of the warf.

We gave a really nice explanation of what shabbat is, had everyone go around and introduce themselves and say a highlight of their past week, and we gave an explanation of what moishe was since we had several first timers.

The Berkeley Marina is filthy and Ashley, Danny and seagulls were there to clean it up. We filled up two 30 gallon garbage bags after a couple hours of sweaty efforts. We were a little bummed not more folks came out for the cause, however we will be back with more environmental awareness efforts next month.

Softball Practice - (3/4/2007)
Joint practice with SF house. We had 10 people show up for the event (20 total including SF house guests). We did a little infield and outfield practice and then had a scrimmage.

Mosaic Luncheon - (3/3/2007)
The Mosaic Project is an organization that works towards building peaceful communities with young children in elementary school. The luncheon took place at the Berkeley Marina and I was able to invite ten Moishe House friends and family medmbers to the event. Danny worked for the Mosaic Project last fall for 6 weeks at their residential camp near Napa. Their work helps build communitites with young children, echoing the message of tikkun olam.

We co sponsored a purim party with SF house in SF. We had 125 guests total (60 for our house). We had a clown, a tight warm-up
