Art therapy - (5/6/2010)

Art therapy is a way of helping people, and since HELPING is the major focus of our Social Action group we have invited someone who studies and applies art therapy. We had the task of drawing something that we think about "giving-receiving". After having drawn your picture we needed to pass it on to the person sitting next us, who had two minutes for drawing. At the same time you got the drawing of the person sitting next to you, and needed to add somehtig to it. Then you passed it on again, until you got back your original drawing - of course totally changed! As a finalization of the session people have told their experiences when drawing into other people's pictures and the owners of the drawings have told what they felt when they got their "distorted" drawings back. It sounds naive and simplistic, but it is a very powerful method - especially with a group like ours, that meets regularly and has strong connection!

According to his reseraches in many cases to say someone has "behavioural disorders" are based racial problems (i.e. not being able to say he is gipsy). Moreover, in many cases the parents are involved, as well, as they receive special financial aids if they have children with such illnesses. We have looked into the issues of "migration", how it can be the solutions of global problems. We have also talked about the criteria of economical success within the EU, with a critical view on the term "GDP". After receiveing a broader picture we have also examined excerpts from the Talmud and some aggadot to understand how the Jewish texts can be a guidance in the social questions of nowdays.

For this Friday we invited a well-known gastroblogger to cook together a typical moroccan jewish dinner for Sabbath eve. Many of our friends were involved in preparing the food. We had so many guests that they could only sit on pillows and we had the youngest guest ever: the 5 years old son of our cooker. He could join us in singing the songs.

Sukkoth learning incl. Kabbalat Shabbat - (10/9/2009)

Unfortunately our balcony is not big enough to build up a Succa there so instead we went first to the nearest synagogue to pray there. Then we had service here and during the dinner we had a precious conversation not only about Succoth, but about Simchat Torah and the cycle of the Torah portions. It was to prepare for the next days special Torah Reading performance in Sirály, a well-known (and mostly jewish) cultural pub next to our house. At the end of the dinner some israeli friend of Zsofi studying here joined us and they were impressed by the activity of Moishe House.
