acupressure & kabbalah - (5/30/2010)

At this Sunday’s program, we’ll go deeper into the Jewish concepts of prayer and connection to the Divine. I’ve done some research on the topic and have found a few key domains of scholarship. Before we work with SiuLi on the practicum, we’ll discuss some general principles about embodied Judais. I’ll share Jewish teachings from Maimonides, a rabbi & physician, who writes about practices for being in the presence of the sick and facilitating healing.

Have you ever been curious about acupressure? Come learn a few tricks that you can use by yourself or with a friend. This workshop will be customized to your needs! As a teenager she received formal acupressure training at the University of British Columbia and subsequently became a teaching assistant. She has also studied and was licensed to practice acupuncture in British Columbia. Siu-Li prefers to use acupressure and in the words of a recent patient, "Results from acupressure last much longer than any massage I've had". Acupressure is a great complement to a number of other healing modalities. Siu-Li's interest is in finding a patient's ideal combination of modalities for optimal long term health. dancers in the dark - (5/10/2009)

As inspired by Karl Frost’s Axolotl work, “you are invited to place a blindfold over your eyes and spend [some time] interacting and exploring with each other and a group of actors, dancers, and musicians. There are no rules per se, other than that you are asked to keep your blindfold on until asked to remove it. The piece is not a singular event on a stage, but a multiplicity of events occurring simultaneously in the minds of the members of the audience... an experience of movement, touch, theater, conversation, soundscape, environment and interpersonal interaction… One could call it an improvisation with an intuitively apprehended search for meaning. What arises is a co-creation amongst those present… What to expect? 'depends on what you bring… There are a lot of possibilities.“ And when we’ve performed our finale, we’ll remove our blindfolds and chat. Yours truly (Stephanie) has participated in this numerous times, dragged many a friend (including a blind date, ha), and TRUST ME: join us.

07.11.26 House Time: Just the 2 of Us - (11/26/2007)

Sometimes Moishe House Providence needs to cut loose and just be our own personal selves... without the need to be impressively hospitable to our usual array of guests. Thus, we are continuously grateful that up to 1 event every month can allow Moishe House PVD to focus inward: we can be strategic, we can be silly, but we don't have to be thinking about work. And that's Us Time.

Neighbor Dinner - (9/30/2007)

We were planning to exercise our option to have a Moishe House event with just the two of us as housemates, a quite Sunday evening at home with some fish, arctic char specifically. But when we got back to the House we realized that our apartment, Moishe House, could use some bonding with our upstairs neighbors, Dave, Evan, and Ben. I also invited our downstairs neighbor, our landlord and frame store Picture This, but the shop did not feel like coming up. Oh well.

[this list is not exhaustive, and bring anyone, jewish or not]

Moishe Move-In - (9/6/2007)

We had a bunch of friends over to help us move in, mainly painting the apartment, and for Japanese food. It was a great chance for our core group to invest physically in our local Moishe House!
